For years, fire departments, law enforcement agents, HazMat teams, and now more than ever First Responders, have been concerned about detecting and identifying hazardous compounds in emergency situations. Several techniques and technologies are used such as PIDs, capable of effectively detecting and monitoring several hundred, if not thousands, of hazardous substances for maximum benefits and safety to users. Ideal for use in a wide variety of applications, including Homeland Security, First Responder, Fire Service, Hazmat Response, Petrochemical, Chemical, Aviation, Marine, Utilities and General Industry.

Sirius multi gas and chemical detector is small accurate and reliable
One PID and four gases in one instrument allows for detection of hundreds of chemicals. The Sirius Multigas Detector provides users outstanding multifunctional capabilities by integrating a high-performance PID (Photoionization Detector) sensor into a 4-gas detector. Users are able to simultaneously monitor for volatile organic compounds (VOCs) with low vapor pressures while measuring for combustible, toxic and oxygen-deficient atmospheres within one reliable, easy-to-use, durable unit. Following are some of the common substances that a PID can detect and monitor: Benzene, Toluene, Vinyl chloride, Hexane, Ammonia, Isobutylene, Jet A fuel, Styrene, Allyl alcohol, Mercaptans, Trichloroethylene, Perchloroethylene, Propylene oxide, Phosphine.
Sirius easy to use software allows for understandable results
Reliable PID Performance MSA’s own proprietary PID sensor design (patent-pending) provides users with excellent PID performance including humidity resistance, stable zero readings, and fast response and clear times to enable users to get their jobs done dependably. User-Friendly Software Easy-to-use software allows users to focus on their tasks at hand! Reading measurements for combustible gas, CO, H2S, O2 and VOCs with their character names are clearly and simultaneously exhibited on the display. A noticeably visible battery life indicator is also continuously displayed to inform users of the remaining run time on the unit. When measuring for general VOCs with isobutylene as the reference gas, users can easily read the chemical name “ isobutyl” in a designated dashboard on the display.
Large and easy to read LCD instant results
When a known gas is present, it is easy to obtain a direct reading measurement for that known gas by using an automatically calculated corresponding response factor to isobutylene, which is preprogrammed into the Sirius unit. Eight alpha characters clearly spell out the VOC gas of choice selected by the user in the dashboard display area. The Sirius unit automatically calculates response factors by easily scrolling through a “ favorite-five” list or by selecting a gas from a 100 gas pre-programmed list. Customized chemical names and corresponding response factors can also be easily added to the list. A user-selectable option to enable ppb VOC readings below 10 ppm is also available, giving users added flexibility for their VOC monitoring needs.
PID lamp access design makes for simple and inexpensive maintenance
Superior, Proprietary PID Sensor reduces maintenance time and cost! PID lamp access is made easy with the Sirius unit. When users need to change or clean a PID lamp, it is so simple with a twist of the lamp holder located conveniently on the front of the instrument. Color-coded lamp eV ratings for easy lamp discrimination also adds to the ease of changing lamps. Two lamps are available; a red color labeled 9.8 eV lamp for more discrimination and a green color labeled 10.6 eV lamp used for most VOCs. A tamperproof version of the PID lamp cover is also available. Any future maintenance of the ionization chamber is also simple and can be done easily at the customer’s location. An easy-to-access ionization chamber is simply removed, disposed of and replaced.
MSA combined a PID sensor and handheld gas meter

This design combines two instruments into one! The Sirius unit can be used with or without the PID sensor mode. When only a 4-gas detector is needed, users can select to turn off VOC readings, allowing users to have a built in capability for confined space monitoring. If a PID sensor is in the future for a customer, but not presently needed, a PID sensor can be simply added to the unit at a later time.
Multidirectional LED lights and piercing audible alarm alert to chemical detection The Sirius Multigas Detector provides loud, attention-grabbing alarms to clearly warn users of a hazardous situation. A piercing alarm horn, resonating through a specially designed horn chamber, is designed into the Sirius unit to give users an audible warning in the event of an alarm condition. Multidirectional bright LED lights give users visible warning of alarm conditions that can be easily seen from any direction the Sirius unit is facing. A “Safe LED” light gives users confidence the unit is actively detecting gas by flashing every 15 seconds.
Uses litium ion or alkaline batteries for instant use 24 hours a day
SIrius gas detection units come with rechargeable batteries or will work with standard alkalines
Interchangeable Lithium-ion and alkaline battery packs keep instruments running 24 hours a day, 7 days a week! A unique, user-friendly design for the alkaline battery pack provides users with a simple-toaccess, slotted thumb screw to easily swap out batteries in the field. An attached lid to the alkaline pack prevents users from losing any parts while at a work site. A lithium ion battery pack with optional vehicle charger is easily interchangeable with the alkaline battery pack. Charging the lithium ion battery pack can be done in the unit or Barseparate from the detector. This interchangeable design and flexible re-charging scheme allows for quick battery turn to keep users continually charged and ready to take action.Easy calibration and compatibility with MSA’s Total Instrument Manager increase user safety by easily ensuring proper sensor performance! One-button calibration makes calibration simple for any user. Intelligent software frees users from complicated calibration adjustments. The Sirius Multigas Detector is also compatible with MSA’s Total Instrument Manager for automated calibration and record keeping.

Long-term storage kit allows users to be confident they have what it takes to ensure their Sirius unit is working properly and will be ready to go! When emergency response conditions may arise, the long term storage kit provides all the tools necessary to keep the Sirius Multigas Detector running if the unit has not been frequently used. The long term kit includes a premium storage case, Sirus Multigas Detector with combustible, H2S, CO, O2 and PID sensors, calibration cylinders, spare sensors with hermetically-sealed O2 sensor to last two years, spare PID lamp, lamp cleaning kit, extra PID ionization chamber, both alkaline and rechargeable lithium ion battery packs, and vehicle charger. A pictorial of how to quick start the unit is also attached to the lid of the case to help users easily understand how to ensure the safe starting operation of the unit if they have not recently used the Sirius Multigas Detector.

The Sirius Multigas Detector unit with PID Sensor gives users all they are looking for in a reliable, easy-to-use, durable package to detect volatile organic compounds, while measuring for combustible, toxic and oxygen deficient atmospheres. This Stellar® instrument is a great addition to the family of multigas and single gas detectors.
